Couples Corner

No relationship is perfect and it is likely that you have identified flaws in your partner over the course of your relationship, but it is important to remember that your partner isn't the only one with flaws, you have them too.

In her article "How To Appreciate Your Spouse's Flaws," Marriage365 author Anna Collins suggests not sweating the small stuff and extending grace to your spouse. She also offers a few tips on what to do when your spouse has flaws, including forgiving the flaws and looking at your spouse overall rather than as the sum of all faults. Family Corner

Several months ago, the ConnectEdPAIRS newsletter featured podcasts and the  podcasts in the Family Corner related to parenting. This month's Family Corner is focused on podcasts for your children.
In the article "11 Podcasts Your Kids Should Be Listening To," Parents author Jeana Lee Tahnk reports that learning through listening has been shown to positively impact comprehension, vocabulary, reading speed, and motivation. She also shares that research has shown that after listening to a podcast, 75% of children start conversations based on what they learned from the podcast.
Here are a few podcasts suggested by the author:

Story Pirates : A podcast that features actors and entertainers who tell stories that have been written by kids.
Peace Out : A podcast that features calming stories that teach mindfulness and meditation.
Brains On! : This podcast is co-hosted by a child and helps children explore scientific topics.

Individual Corner

Did you know that 35-50% of adults report having sleeping difficulties? Good sleep is important and not getting proper sleep can lead to physical and mental health problems.

In his article, "18 Simple Practices to Help You Sleep Better," Psychology Today author Arash Emamzadeh outlines strategies for increasing your chances of getting a good night's rest. Strategies include practicing good sleep hygiene, stimulus control, relaxation, sleep restriction, challenging your thoughts, and paradoxical intention.

Infertility Corner

You may be having difficulty sorting out your own feelings about infertility, let alone trying to explain those feelings to someone else. To help you explain your struggle with infertility, Ferre Institute adapted material from Jody Earle to create the brochure, "Infertility: What it Feels Like."
I hope you find the brochure helpful to explain the myriad of feelings you may be experiencing, such as confusion, impatience, fear, anger, isolation, shame, and sadness.

For assistance with your family building journey, call Stephani for an appointment at 217-972-4851

Are you having difficulty getting pregnant? Are you wondering if you might be experiencing infertility? This is the ConnectEdPAIRS corner for infertility. Check here monthly for infertility education and support. Stephani Cave, LCPC specializes in infertility counseling and holds Professional Memberships in the Mental Health Professionals Group of the American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM ) and RESOLVE: The National Infertility Association. Both of these organizations' websites are sources of education and support as well.

Film Corner

I recently saw the film Suicide: The Ripple Effect. This documentary tells the story of Kevin Hines, who at age 19 tried to take his own life and survived. While Kevin still struggles with bipolar disorder, he also travels the world to talk about suicide prevention. If you are able to see this film, I highly recommend it. To learn more about the film, Kevin Hines, and his advocacy work, click here.

If you are having thoughts of suicide, call the National Suicide Prevention Hotline at 1-800-273-8255 or text START to 741741.

Happy July!

We hope you enjoy Independence Day, the full moon, county fairs, relaxing days by the pool, and any vacations you may have planned this month.

Even if you are not experiencing infertility, I encourage you to read the brochure link featured in the Infertility Corner article. As suggested by Brene Brown, the brochure's format can be used as a template to describe any struggle. Substitute your current struggle in place of "infertility" and use the brochure's format as a template to discuss feelings you are experiencing related to that struggle.
